Father Bob Longobucco was born and raised in Bayville, NY, the son of a school teacher and a bar owner. He attended the University at Albany where he fell in love with both campus ministry and the upstate area.
Following graduation from SUNY, Fr. Bob spent a year in Los Angeles as a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. He returned to Albany where he became a media coordinator. Inspired by his love for social justice he decided to enter the seminary. He received a Master’s of Divinity from the Catholic University of America and was ordained to the priesthood on July 3, 1998.
Fr. Bob’s first assignment was as Associate Pastor and Sacramental Minister for Campus Ministry at St. Mary’s in Oneonta, NY. After three years in Oneonta he returned to the University at Albany as Campus Minister. Under Fr. Bob’s guidance, the Campus Ministry experienced growth in numbers, service hours, and friendships. Following this assignment, Fr. Bob filled in at St. Matthew’s in Voorheesville, Sacred Heart Church in Lake George, and Blessed Sacrament in Bolton Landing.
Fr. Bob arrived in Schenectady when he was named Pastor of St. Helen’s Church and Sacramental Minister at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Fr. Bob worked tirelessly on the merger of these two parishes. In 2012, he achieved this goal of Called to be Church with the formation of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish.
Fr. Bob continues to be a welcome presence in St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish School. He teaches lessons in each grade level, leads students in prayer, and celebrates Mass for our school students each month. Fr. Bob is always ready to help our staff, our students, and our school families. In the words of some of our younger students, he is our “Fr. God”.
